Corner of Avondale & 6th, since 2011
Flowers cut this morning, arranged by hand, out the door by noon.
We buy in small batches from growers within a day's drive, so what's in the cooler changes with the week. No standing orders of the same six stems — just what's good right now.
This week's arrangements
Built around what came in fresh Monday. When a bouquet sells out, it's gone until next season — we don't restock from a catalog.
The Avondale Mix
Garden roses, ranunculus, and whatever herb smells best in the cooler that morning. Our most-ordered bouquet, and it never looks the same twice.
Morning Marigold
All warm tones — tulips, ranunculus, and sprigs of fennel flower. Cheerful without trying too hard. A good one to send instead of saying it out loud.
Greenhouse Quiet
Mostly foliage — eucalyptus, olive branch, ferns — with just a few white blooms tucked in. For a desk, a shelf, or someone who says they don't like flowers.
How it works
From the flower market to your table, same day
Order by 2pm
Choose a bouquet above, or call the shop and describe the occasion — we'll build something for it.
We cut and arrange
Every order is arranged fresh the same morning, not pulled pre-made from a cooler shelf.
Pickup or local delivery
Grab it from the counter, or we'll hand-deliver within Avondale and the surrounding blocks by evening.
Flowers for the moment
Tell us what it's for and we'll steer the arrangement — these are starting points, not fixed menus.
Weddings
Bridal parties, ceremony arches, and reception tables — planned around your date months out.
Sympathy
Quiet, standing arrangements delivered to a home or service, usually within the same day.
Birthdays
Bright, no-occasion-needed bouquets. Add a card and we'll write it out by hand.
Events & offices
Standing weekly orders for lobbies, restaurants, and studios around the neighborhood.
About the shop
Started with one bucket of tulips and a folding table
Avondale Florist opened in 2011 when Amara Okafor started selling bouquets from a folding table outside the old hardware store on 6th. The shop moved indoors two years later, but the high ceilings and big storefront windows stayed the same.
We still work with three growers within a few hours of the city, which means the shop changes with the seasons — dahlias crowd the counter in September, and by January it's mostly branches and bulbs.
Today it's Amara, her son Femi, and two arrangers, all working out of the same corner shop.
